I retired from a 35-year career in law enforcement. Had I remained in Illinois instead of moving to California, I have no idea what I would have done, but I'm certain it wouldn't have been law enforcement. I was studying architecture in college and took an elective that sent me in a completely different direction. I think I'm one of the few people who found a career that was suited for his personality, values, physical abilities, and integrity. While I can think of other things of interest, this afforded me a view of the world and people I couldn't have experienced doing anything else.
My wife (Stephanie) and I have been together for about 30 years. She is the most wonderful person I've ever met. While she is still working and I retired at 56 she enjoys working in her law practice and just not ready to throw in the towel. We are still able to do a fair amount of traveling and working on and around the house.
We live about a block from the ocean off Pacific Coast Highway in Newport Beach. We have been extremely fortunate to have a comfortable life wife most of the family living nearby.
I am an avid motorcycle enthusiast. I've ridden since college but given the time I have, I ride all over the world. In September of 2013 Steph and I rode the French Riviera for 5 days. We were on a smaller motorcycle and rode two-up.
In May and June I took my longest USA motorcycle ride knocking out about 14,000 miles and 32 States in under a month. This was a solo trip, though I met several friends who live in other States who are also motorcyclists. One friend rode from California on the "Ride to the Wall" a tribute to those who served in Viet Nam. He rode from California to the Viet Nam memorial in D.C. We met in Gettysburg and then rode to the Harley Museum in Milwaukee together and then to Nebraska, where he rode home and I rode down to Key West, FL.
I am enjoying life these days and thankful to the life I started in Illinois with fantastic childhood friends and memories. Now in California I pinch myself everyday living my life around friends and family enjoying all life has to offer. My childhood in the Glencoe still remains an important memory of my childhood. I visit every few years making a point of riding through the area on my motorcycle every chance I can.
