OBITUARY

Annie Carpenter Hayashi, 62, of Northfield died at home January 18th, 2016. Annie is survived by her loving husband of 34 years, David, her beloved son, Jeremiah (Heather) Rawlings and her beautiful granddaughter Fumiko Alice of Boulder, Colorado, her sister Lynn (David) Petersen of Skokie, IL and her brother Chip (Bonnie) Carpenter of Wilmette, IL Annie was born February 24th, 1953 at St. Francis Hospital in Evanston. While she lived the majority of her life in Chicago’s northern suburbs, she spent time in Boulder, Colorado where her son was born and where she, as a single parent, graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Colorado with a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology. Annie lived a life guided by a passion for social justice that allowed her to connect with people from all walks of life. Her fire touched the hearts and minds of everyone she met. Her deep intelligence was readily apparent, forgoing the superficial for true inquiry and real understanding. Her wide-ranging interests took her to Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary where she obtained her Masters Degree in Religious History. Her great joys included not only her family, but also engaging in in-depth discussions of theology as well as a spirited involvement in the issues of the day. Annie was a fighter in her own life as well. After learning she had multiple sclerosis, she vowed that it would not slow her down nor affect her in any way. She successfully managed the disease for the remainder of her life. Annie will be deeply missed by her family and friends and all those who were touched by her life. A wake will be held from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 28th at the Donnellan Funeral Home, 10045 Skokie Blvd, at Old Orchard Road, Skokie, IL 60077. Funeral services will be held at the Community Church of Wilmette, 1020 Forest Ave, Wilmette, IL 60091 on Friday, January 29th at 11:00 followed immediately by a reception at the church. Burial services will be private.
